Rimage Everest 600 Printer Review

The Rimage Everest 600 printer is the 4th generation Everest printer released by Rimage, and the most current printer not counting the 400dpi Everest 400 that is integrated in the 3400/3410 and 5400n/5410n systems. The E600 is a thermal re-transfer printer that is 100% indelible, 100% UV protected and completely water resistant. The Everest 600 boasts full 600x600 dpi printing and is vastly superior to cheaper inkjet based disc printers (Epson, Microboards, Primera, Dymo, etc) that will smear and smudge as they are not water proof.

The main advantages over the previous Everest printers is that the Everest 600 has greatly improved edge to edge print quality and solid color filling capabilities.

The Everest 600 has been the printer of choice on a wide range of Rimage auto printer systems and disc publishing models since late 2008 and early 2009. Some of the most popular being the AutoEverest 600, 5100N, 5300N, 6100N, 7100N and the flagship 4-drive model 8100N. Also on the newly released 6200n, 7200n and 8200n.

As far as the basic specification go, the Everest 600 prints the equivalent of 600 dots/inch using the equivalent of 300 dots/inch using variable dot technology. The printers weights approximately 41 pounds without packaging and has the following dimensions: 9.7” Height x 9.5” Width x 14.8 Depth. Print speed 60 seconds in both Photo and Graphics mode. Optimal operating room temp = 59-86 Fahrenheit (15-30 Centigrade). Ribbon choices include a 1000 print black ribbon (part# 2002160), and a 500 print color CMY ribbon (part# 2002161). We have been told that there are no available compatible ribbons available in the market place that work on the Everest 600 thermal cd printer.

As far as the testing, we mostly printed on Verbatim CD-r and JVC DVD-r using the hand/manual load option as well as on a 300 disc Auto Everest 600 robot and a Producer III 7100n full disc burning/printing system.

The printer that we used for this test had over 220,000 discs prints. We intentionally picked a printer with a higher print count to see how it would perform. The printer was tested for over 30 days and printed in excess of 5000 discs. The E600 printer is an extremely durable printer that has strikingly awesome disc color or monochrome black print capabilities. There is a noticeable print quality improvement over previous generation Everest II & III printers. As far as the print modes went, we mostly printed in “Photo” mode as the print output was a bit smoother than with “Graphics” mode (graphics mode had more of a screen printed look and feel).

The printer proved easy to setup on a Win XP PC in manual mode (there are also Window 7 and Mac drivers as well). It took just a couple of minutes to load the printer driver and CD designer template software. We printed from CD Designer, and it seemed like an easy software package to use in terms of centering logos, clip art, and adding multiple text fields. You can also easily print directly from Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The CD Designer program allows for multiple merge fields to add variable data like names, addresses, serial numbers, codes, etc, which is a nice future for truly unique on disc printing.

We also tested the Everest 600 on a 300 disc capacity Rimage Auto-Printer – aka the Auto-Everest 600. It was easy to set up with the Rimage robotic print only autoloader, and only required a simple movement of the switch on the back of the printer to setting #2 from setting #0 for manual mode. We printed over 3500 CDs and DVDs over the course of several weeks and were blown away by the amazing print quality, vivid colors and overall professional look of the discs. We did encounter a couple of discs with dust speaks or an occasional vertical dust streak. But the numbers of these types of blemishes was very small, less than 1%. It is easy to clean the dust off of the print head using a cleaning wand (provided by Rimage), and some rubbing alcohol (user provided).

Finally we tested the printer on a Rimage Producer 7100n with the internal embedded PC. It took about 5 minutes to uninstall a different Everest 600 driver and replace with the correct driver (each Everest 600 printer requires its own individual driver). We also had to switch the setting on the back of the printer to position #1 (transporter mode). The 7100n also has a bin capacity of 300 discs, but adds two integrated CD/DVD/BD burners for full disc color print and burn capabilities. The 600 printer worked great while printing and duping another 1500+ JVC white thermal DVDs.

Pros – 600dpi printing!

Lots to like about this printer – higher color density, better solid color fills, sharper text printing, blacker blacks, and the printer seems to handle blue and purple color differentials better than previous models. We also like the fact that Rimage added 3 additional fans to the printer which seems to help this printer and its parts last longer.

Cons – We couldn’t find anything wrong.

I hope you found what you were looking for in this review and maybe even learned a thing or two. Keep us in mind for any CD/DVD printer, duplicator or disc publishing needs you have in the future. We are the real deal and here to share our knowledge and high quality products with you! There are Everest printers for sale on Ebay or other auction sites that will only work if the discs are hand loaded, be careful! Or they may not work at all. Make sure you buy from a trusted source that provides a warranty.
